Gratitude

Of all that I wish in life, is one lived in gratitude. -Me -2018
This year my gratitude is, for once,  focused on the thanksgiving table. This one day, that always surprises me when it is on a Thursday, has me reflecting on the feast. Not the food or the space but the coming together and giving thanks. The origins of this holiday started with the one brief, safe moment of gratitude between the travels and the conquests.
The feast was not a coming together for the remembrance of lives lost on the voyage to new land, or the future massacre of the Native Americans but a coming together for thanks. A pause and stealing of time, to sit in gratitude and dine.

I wish we could have remained sitting at the table in thanks, longer. The wars for control, the drive to conquer, the value of one life, one dream trampling others. I don’t know if we have done well with our energies, once we got up from the table.  It seems like we have moved further and further from the table of thanks. There are no pauses between the voyage of life and the conquest of ownership. We got up from the table filled with gratitude, and have since walked away, focused on entitlement. The moment we realized we had survived, we entered a consumption frenzy and have not stopped since. The tide of change rockin us between the voyage of life and the conquest of ownership. It is the pull of the moon, it is what makes us beautifully human and yet let us return to the table more.

Let us take the time to pause between changes of life and come together in thanks.
Let us not leave our gratitude in our napkins and busy ourselves with what we are entitled to. Let us allow gratitude to be the antidote to our fears, our envy, our inadequacies and our consumption.
Let gratitude fill our bellies and nourish our lives.
Let us gather more, for no other reason than to give thanks.
We are between the voyage of life and the conquest of ownership, with gratitude we become present.
