Friends for Mama

I forgot how much fun girlfriend time is. I had the joy of having a few girlfriends over for dinner and outside of the numerous shrieks of children (good and bad), the laughter of ladies was singing true.
The funniest story of the night was one a friend shared about her two boys.  One day when she was particularly overly tired and at her limit, the boys were at their usual of screaming in the back seat of the car because one looked at the other and that was not ok. Well she pulled up to the stop sign and once reaching a full stop she just turned around and glared at them, through clenched teeth she said in a overly controlled voice, "get out!!"
Her boys are two and four. She said that they became quiet and as still as a mouse. Looking at her unsure of what she just said...... needless to say, she enjoyed a quiet duration of the ride home.  I just lost it picturing these two boys in their five point harness car seats, not knowing how to buckle or unbuckle themselves, sippy cups in hand, being told to get out of the vehicle for their loud and disruptive misconduct.
Meanwhile another friend brings Miss. Do Good with her wherever she goes (a wooden spoon.)
Its freeing to share the funny stories, the insane stories and just be able to laugh with each other about our coping skills or the lack there of. It is nice to know that your insanity is normal, that children are all characters of different colors.  It was just so nice to have some friends over for mama.

On another note, after exiting our very hot car Emma pipes up with, "my neck is watering"

ahhh so glad you got some good girl friend time in! Nothing recharges a momma like a good laugh with friends and feeling not "alone" with all the craziness going on around. Love you and can't wait to have some laughs with you! I love that story and need to remember to use that with my kids :) Though Ethan would probably be like sure mom that sounds awesome :)
